House Republican Leader Jim Durkin will join with the Illinois Tollway and members of the O’Laughlin family on July 13 at 9 a.m. to celebrate the Interstate 294 Plainfield Road bridge memorial dedication in honor of Kelli Joy O’Laughlin. The dedication will take place on Southbound Side of the Hinsdale Tollway Oasis – 5800 Tri State Toll Road, Hinsdale IL (off 294 South expressway).
“Kelli’s tragic death has impacted so many families throughout this region,” Durkin said. “Kelli’s life and spirit are forever engrained in the minds and hearts of her family, friends and countless residents of our state. This dedication reaffirms that Kelli’s life had great meaning and that her memory will last eternally.”
Kelli was a 14-year-old freshman at Lyons Township High School when she was murdered during a home invasion in 2011. Her death ravaged the communities surrounding her Indian Head Park home for years, and her life has been memorialized through various fundraising events, scholarships and more.
“By dedicating this bridge in her honor, we will forever keep Kelli and her family in our thoughts,” said State Sen. John Curran. “I also hope this memorial provides peace and comfort to those who knew and loved Kelli most.”
Leader Durkin introduced House Joint Resolution 78 to dedicate the Plainfield Road Bridge over the Interstate 294 as the “Kelli Joy O’Laughlin Memorial Bridge” to honor Kelli’s life, legacy and long-lasting impact she had on the community.
