State Representative Jim Durkin welcomed students to an ice cream social in Burr Ridge last Friday to recognize their commitment to reading over the summer break.
Each year, Rep. Durkin sponsors a summer reading club for students in the 82nd District in order to help prevent summer learning loss. The program encourages fun and educational reading for children in Pre-K through fifth grade. Participants in the 2019 Summer Reading Program were challenged to read eight books of their choice over the summer break and report back before the start of the new school year.
Students who completed the program were invited to an ice cream social and received an official certificate of recognition from the Illinois House of Representatives.
