Community dedicates Brooks Edwin Tonn Memorial Bridge in honor of inspiring young man

I was proud to stand with the Tonn family this weekend to dedicate the 47th Street Bridge over Interstate 294 in memory of an amazing young man, Brooks Edwin Tonn.

Brooks was born in August of 2007 and grew up in Hinsdale where he excelled in academics and sports, particularly baseball. In 2016, he was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma, but this did not stop Brooks’ dedication to those around him or his beloved sport, baseball.

He made a long-lasting, meaningful impression on everyone in his community and communities all across Illinois with his motto “Have Courage and Be Kind.” Since the day of Brooks Tonn’s passing on December 1, 2017, blue and yellow cups have adorned the 47th Street Bridge with his rallying cry “Brooks Strong.”

The bridge will now be known as the Brooks Edwin Tonn Memorial Bridge in his honor.
